Unlike the original series, the second incarnation suffered from low ratings. Syfy halted production of the series before the intended number of episodes had been produced, and the network canceled the series after airing three episodes. The reason for the premature cancellation of the series was the same reason as the earlier cancellation: the show was moved to the later 11 PM timeslot, during which it would have competed against NBC's popular programming line-up of Heroes, Lost, Parenthood, Brothers and Sisters, and Medium. It did not help that the pilot episode was not aired until January 29, 2009, as NBC had already been airing a repeat of the 2006 series, Bionic Woman. TV by the Numbers reported that the episode was the lowest-rated program of the night, with only 2.4 million viewers.
The Bionic Woman was eventually resurrected on the Sci-Fi Channel in its 2010 reboot The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The series, which starred Summer Glau and provided an origin story for the character, was canceled at the end of its first season. The show was succeeded by a spin-off series, The Returned.
