Inspecting a vent nozzle to detect leaks or a flame arrestor to check for the presence of a hole or a missing piece, requires removal of the flame arrestor. Since this is an in-place inspection, the flame arrestor must be removed from the vent nozzle.
In-place inspection is made possible by the ability to define the measurement area for inspection and the ability to place the measurement equipment into the proper relative position to the measurement area. For instance, to measure the flange for a vent, one could place the 3D scanner under the flange and then measure the flange. Or, the inspector could use a portable 3D scanner to measure the flange after it has been removed from the vent nozzle.
Visual inspection is typically performed by the inspector using one of the following tools:
A personal computer or equivalent with the applicable software
A CAD program such as CATIA, Aras, NX, PLM, Solidworks or Pro/E
A portable 3D scanner
The design, materials and methods used for construction of the tunnel are the responsibility of the owner. The owner must maintain the tunnel and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations. The owner may be required to obtain and maintain a certificate of compliance (CO&C) from a qualified tunnel inspector. The inspector shall verify compliance with the CO&C and any additional requirements for tunnel inspections.
