In 1988 or 1989 Honeywell released the 686/MTW, which had the Honeywell VMS 2.1 and IBM System/370 operating systems. The 686/MTW was the last DPS-86/M model.
In 1981 Honeywell introduced the 6000/T, which was essentially a DPS-8 with the Honeywell VMS system and the addition of a Texas Instruments DSP-3800.[9] Honeywell continued to develop the product line to include improvements and some new models during the 1980s. In 1983 the DPS-8/M was renamed DPS-86/M. In 1984 the DPS-86/M was renamed 686/M. In 1985 the DPS-86/M was renamed 686/MX.[11] In 1986 the DPS-86/M was renamed 686/MT.
