I'm not sure why there weren't more of these back stories, but I think it has something to do with the live action film coming out. The characters of Po, Kai, Tigress, Monkey, and Mr. Ping go on a trek to the Mountain of Faith to have a vision about the future. They find out that Po is their leader and they tell him that they were going to name their 5 following Po's orders. The names of their 5 are Tigress, Monkey, Monkey, Tigress, and Monkey. Po then sends them out to find the members of the Furious Five and they all get some training. The movie then focuses on Po, the team, and how they manage to work together to save the day.
The animation is still as gorgeous as ever, though you can definitely tell it's a CGI movie. Still it's good animation and it looks great. It also has some of the best fight scenes of all time.
This movie is one of my favorites of all time and likely the best installment of the series. It's a great look at the complexity of growing up in the world today and how you have to decide what's important to you in life. It's also a great way to set up the live action film that came next.
A good majority of the characters in this film are characters that you know and love from the first three movies. I loved the character of Wen and the way they did his voice with the accent and how they interpreted what it's like being in the outside world. It's something that I think is a great way to capture how these characters feel about things.
The next film is the live action film. I didn't care much about this one since I love the original trilogy. I was happy to see some of the characters show up and to see how they all fit in. Monkey did some awesome martial arts and I love the way they portrayed him with the accent. I also liked how they used the iconic scenes from the first three movies in this film.
If you haven't seen this movie and you like kung fu films, you are definitely missing out. I think you'll enjoy the heck out of it. It is definitely worth watching and watching again. Give it a watch and let me know what you think!
Now I think it's important to mention that this movie is not only a product of Disney, but it was directed by the same guy that directed the 3d version, John Musker. I guess he just did this one as a favor? I don't know, but this 2d version is quite possibly my favorite of the series. The animation is fantastic and the story has a little more weight to it. Not only that, but the characters are all very expressive. I'm glad he made this movie. I'm glad it exists.
The story is a bit more straightforward than what I expected but in typical Dragonball fashion it's an entertaining, fun adventure that I enjoyed from start to finish. I also really enjoy the way they handled Po's flashbacks in this movie. It's the first time I've seen a DBZ movie pull that off and it was really refreshing.
So, now that we've got the story out of the way I can speak to the animation. The animation is the best I've seen in a DBZ movie since the original Dragonball movie and I love it. Its fluid, it's vibrant, it's sleek, it's beautiful. I think the animation in this movie stands on its own as an interesting aesthetic choice and is a perfect marriage for the various action scenes. I enjoyed watching it with the family but also with my friends who were more familiar with DBZ. It's so fun to watch and I found myself enjoying the fight scenes and the story so much that I thought I'd included some of my favorite clips in this review! 827ec27edc
